Life under Trump is stressful

He defies the Constitution, dismantles government agencies, attacks Congress, ignores courts, threatens military force against Panama and Greenland, insults Canada, interferes with the military, and challenges anyone interfering with his quest for power.

Recently Trump met with Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, in a highly unusual and inappropriate move, pressuring him regarding interest rates.

Powell appropriately responded that monetary policy would depend entirely on economic infrastructure and information, as required by law, not presidential pressure.

Trump interfered with Harvard’s ability to enroll foreign students, forcing the university to seek a federal injunction.

These students bring brilliance, resources,  and money to our country. Excluding them is shortsighted nonsense.

Trump hosted a private dinner at his golf club for top buyers of his $Trump crypto coins, a potential way for anyone, including foreign governments, to funnel money to our president, a road map for corruption.

This is not theoretical. In March, Binance Cryptocurrency Exchange met with U.S. Treasury officials requesting less oversight. Previously, Binance was fined $4.3 billion for letting terrorists, drug traffickers and other shady characters use its exchange

Trump wants in on this pot of gold.

This just scratches the surface. Trump’s self-serving bullying and bullheadedness is exhausting. Name calling, bluster, lies, insults, verbal cruelty, refusal to listen or compromise, inflammatory language, etc.

Some say that this is intentional. The sheer volume and speed of falsehoods is exhausting, and overwhelms fact checkers.

Trump’s communication style comes from the authoritarian playbook. It erodes democratic norms and fuels excessive and risky decisions and absolutism.

The Firehose of Falsehood is a propaganda technique developed by the Soviets, perfected by Putin, in which a large number of messages are broadcast repeatedly, repetitively, and continuously, without regard for truth, in order to overwhelm.

Repeat a lie until it turns into a truth.

Previously, Trump strategist Steve Bannon advised, “Flood the zone with s__t. Same idea.

The goal? To overwhelm, exhaust, and inspire a sense of being hopelessly submerged in a swamp of nonsense.

Many of us are feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, discouraged, depressed.

How do we stop this takeover of our country and save our democracy? Everyone of us must step up any way we can. We’re all capable of something. Speak. Write. March. Post a sign.

Call and write your congressman and senator. Talk to people. Do something. We have no other choice.

Otherwise, kiss democracy good-bye.
