Medical institutions performing well

To the Journal editor:

A gentleman from Munising let off steam in the Mining Journal (recently) regarding America’s health care practices.

He listed off a plethora of absurd statements, making one think we live in the infamous s _ _ t hole, Haiti, when in fact, we have the greatest health care system in the world.

We have met some wonderful Canadians when playing snowbirds in Florida, Gulf Shores and Lake Havasu.

Invariably, the topic of health care comes up. Our friends from Moncton, New Brunswick love coming to the southern states just to get away from the harsh winters. Secondly, from my understanding, they have a 6-month window to return home in accordance with their insurance policies.

That is important to them because they love the care and more importantly, the quick response to the care here.

In Canada, our friend told of friends and relatives who actually died waiting for major procedures. Things like MRI’s or CT scans take 6 months to a year. In Havasu, two couples from Edmonton and the other from Calgary echoed the same dire reports.

(On) April 6, I called Green Bay, talked to the receptionist, the doctors nurse and she said they’d get back. Three hours later, I have my appointment at 10:30 tomorrow.

People who go south for the winter months I’m sure can concur the same stories from Canadians. I can’t imagine other countries health practices that he mentioned.

As for my family, we’ve had a total of nine surgeries at Bellin. We love America and our medical institutions.
