Leave logo alone

To the Journal editor:

My class, the class of 1965 was the first to graduate from Marquette Senior High School. When the class-mates brought the Indian head logo into being, we were proud to be a part of the community of residents of the Upper Peninsula.

Over the years our heritage has been under attack by outsiders trying to change us into what they wanted us to be. Sound familiar? Check your history books. White man. ( yes, I’m white also). But I never tried to change my friends. We were and still are proud of that logo.

To us it means strength, honor, knowledge, loyalty, honesty, bravery and perseverance. Shame on you for not learning the meaning of what the students of this community brought forth as our heritage.

MAPS especially has no right to abolish the classmate’s logo.
