Bergman all in behind Trump

To the Journal editor:

It appears Jack Bergman is going all in with his defense of Donald Trump. On Sept. 26, U.S. Representative Bergman’s Facebook page posted this: “With both the transcript of the call and the whistle-blower report now declassified and released, we see that this entire story and basis of these claims are entirely second or even third hand rumor.

This entire charade is beneath the office we serve in, and the American people must demand better.”

Many people think the concerns raised by the whistle-blowers report and the transcript of a phone conversation between Trump and the President of the Ukraine are alarming.

In keeping with their Constitutional duty, the House of Representatives launched an impeachment inquiry to determine whether Mr. Trump used the power of the presidency to help dig up dirt on a political opponent and to obstruct justice by trying to hide that act.

The impeachment inquiry is not a step that was taken lightly. The Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, refrained from taking action until the evidence of misconduct was so blatant that it could no longer be ignored. For the good of the nation, both with this president and future presidents, she initiated the inquiry knowing that it could have adverse political impact on her Party. Fortunately, Ms. Pelosi takes her oath to defend the Constitution seriously.

Contrast that with Mr. Bergman’s stance. Not only is he avoiding his duty and oath to defend the Constitution, he calls the story and its basis a “charade”.

Jack Bergman is right — The American people do deserve better. And we’ll have our chance to get better representation next year when he is up for re-election.
