Fundraiser sensational

To the Journal editor:

On behalf of the Superior Health Foundation team and its Board of Directors, we want to offer our sincerest thanks to The Mining Journal, Marquette artist Earl Senchuck and the many helping hands of Sandy Knoll Elementary School students in Marquette for making the Tree of Life fundraiser such a huge success.

The Mining Journal introduced a Tree of Life fundraiser in which community residents donated $5 for a pink ribbon to honor or remember loved ones affected by breast cancer. The 695 ribbons were placed on a tree adjacent to the Marquette Post Office.

The Tree of Life raised $3,162.53 for the Superior Health Foundation’s Breast Health Fund, which provides up to $1,000 in individual funding to men and women across the U.P. to help with out-of-pocket breast health expenses.

We applaud the fundraiser and are tremendously grateful to accept this gift for that fund.

The Breast Health Fund has provided more than $15,000 in philanthropic funding to your relatives, friends and neighbors since its inception two years ago. We think that’s pretty special.

Fundraisers like this reaffirm the giving spirit that’s alive and well in the Upper Peninsula.

Perhaps you know of someone who could benefit from funding? If so, applications are available at www.superiorhealthfoundation.org/breast-health-fund/ or in the SHF office located at 121 N. Front St. in Marquette.
