Praise His name

To the Journal editor:

Halloween has just passed. Our next special day we will celebrate is Thanksgiving Day on Nov. 27.

Things have changed through the years in regards to how we observe these holidays. Many years ago it was more about being thankful for the more simple things in life, like food on the table, a place to be protected by the elements, snow, rain, cold, etc. Also family and friends who cared about each other.

And most of all many thanks to God for providing us with these gifts. As the years have passed seems it’s now more about buying than giving. Now more stores are open and we can shop all night plus each year the Thanksgiving Day sales start much earlier.

Anyway, I am back to as it was years ago, when the day arrives on the 27th then I’m going to remember what the real meaning is. Give thanks for not so much earthly possessions that I have but more for the spiritual side, God’s great love for all people and a promise of better things to come in His kingdom that’s coming.

Next month the day we call Christmas, another great gift from God, his son Jesus Christ coming into the world to show us the way to get into the Kingdom of God.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.
