Free flu shots for area veterans a great thing
Veterans have a great opportunity to get ahead of this year’s flu season with free vaccinations being available over the next week.
The Marquette Veterans Affairs Outpatient Clinic will be offering free flu vaccines next week. The clinic will be offering the vaccines on Thursday and Friday, from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.
Vaccines will also be available at other locations in the U.P. including medical centers, community-based outpatient clinics, in-network community retail pharmacies and urgent care walk-in locations.
The Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center will offer drive-through or walk-in vaccine clinics at all locations starting Monday. Iron Mountain VA Medical Center will host drive-through clinics in their front parking lot from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily Sept. 23 to Oct. 4. A walk-in clinic in the primary care waiting room will be held the following week from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 7 to Oct. 11. No appointment is necessary to receive the vaccine.
Other locations in and around the Upper Peninsula will be offering the vaccines as well:
≤ Rhinelander — 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. CST Sept. 16 and 17.
≤ Sault Ste. Marie — 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. EST Sept. 16 and 18

To be eligible for a flu shot from a community provider, veterans must be enrolled in VA health care and have received care form either a VA provider or a member of VA’s Community Care Network within the past 24 months.
To check eligibility, veterans can call 800-MYVA411 (800-698-2411).
The 2024-25 vaccine, Spikevax, is expected soon. More details regarding the vaccine will be made available when doeses are received.
These free vaccines are just another example of the great work that the VA does to take care of our veterans. We highly encourage anyone who is eligible to get their flu vaccine to help and keep Superiorland healthy this fall and winter.
