Ray was born July 15, 1941 in Negaunee to Arne and Christine (Manzoline) Larson and attended Negaunee Public Schools. Ray moved to Chicago where he began is his career with Honeywell for ten years, before relocating to East Lansing where he worked with General Motors as a sheet metal worker, retiring in 1997 with over 30 years of service with GM.
