Alvin Luokkala
ESCANABA, MI – Alvin Jacob Luokkala of Escanaba, formerly of Ishpeming, left this world on August 22, 2023, at the age of 80.
He is preceded by his parents, Eino and Sannie (Maki) Luokkala.
Born and raised in Negaunee,MI, Al joined the Army after graduating high school and was stationed in Germany for three years. He came home and found employment with UPPCO where he worked till his retirement. Al was a long-time resident of Ishpeming, where he raised his family, and attended Bethel Lutheran Church.
Al enjoyed fishing, hunting, polka dancing and spending time with his family. His favorite place was his camp on Lake Superior in Deerton. Morning on the water fishing, followed by lake trout on the grill and a hot sauna, was Al’s idea of a perfect day.
He leaves behind his dance partner through life, Margaret “Peggy” St. Vincent; brother, Eino Robert (Clara) Luokkala; daughters, Christa (John Hribljan) Luokkala and Lisa (Lane Johnson) Luokkala; along with two granddaughters, Leona Butterfly and Iris Selia.
We welcome family and friends to join us in remembering Al at the Onota Township Hall in Deerton, Mich., on Friday, September 8, 2023, at 11:00 AM. The service will be conducted by Pastor David VanKley, followed by luncheon and burial.
