Lori Butler

ISHPEMING, MI – Lori Ann Butler, 59, of Ishpeming, passed away peacefully at home Saturday afternoon, November 6th, 2021, while in the care of her loving family and UP Home Health and Hospice, following a long battle with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease.

Lori was born September 22nd, 1962, in Ishpeming, to James and Dorothy (Uuro) Meyer, graduated from Ishpeming High School, Class of 1980 and was lifelong area resident. She continued her education at Northern Michigan University, earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Business with a medical major. She was a longtime nurse’s aide and most recently worked as a medical transcriptionist at the medical center, retiring due to health issues.

Mrs. Butler was a devout lifelong member of Bethel Lutheran Church, Ishpeming. She was strong in her faith which gave her strength and comfort in her final days. In her spare time, she enjoyed crochet, playing cribbage, watching Jeopardy, music and playing the guitar, yoga, cycling, reading the Bible, and had a true green thumb.

Surviving are her mother, Dorothy Meyer of Ishpeming; her daughter, Amanda Butler of Ishpeming; a brother, David (Cindy) Meyer of Florence, OR; great- nephews, Tyler and Tanner Leach; and special cousins: Rebecca Crawford, Sally Healey, Julie Stream and Linda Bonetti.

She was preceded in death by father, James Meyer; her former husband and best friend, Richard Butler; longtime companion, Steven Bourdage; and her nephew, David Meyer, Jr.

Memorial services will be held at 12:00 noon, on Wednesday, November 10th at Bethel Lutheran Church in Ishpeming, with Rev. Steve Weston officiating. Interment will be in the Ishpeming Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends for one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday, and also at a luncheon immediately following services in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to UPAWS or to Lori’s family to assist in her final expenses.

Lori had wished to extend a special thank you to Dr. Amelia Sramek, Dr. Shawna Gleason, Dr. Lloyd Hooper; her amazing care giver, Susan Anderson; Candace and Sherry of MGH Health & Wellness; the staff MGH Home Infusion; best friend, Lynn Haukkala; and Rachel and Leigh from UP Home Health & Hospice for the amazing care and support provided.
