Maureen J. Hantz Reif

SKANDIA, MI – Maureen J. Hantz Reif, 87, of Skandia, passed away on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at her home. She was surrounded by her loving family and under the care of U.P. Home Health and Hospice.

Maureen was born on November 17, 1932, in Duluth, MN, to the late Sylvester and Julia (Seguin) Allen. She graduated from Denfeld High School in Duluth and moved to the Marquette area in 1964.

Maureen was employed at Glen Avon Church during her time in Duluth. Locally she worked in the Registrar’s Office at Northern Michigan University and in 1979, started at the First of American Bank, retiring as a personnel officer.

Maureen was a member of the Lake Superior Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association as well as former president. She also sat on the advisory boards of the Employee Assistance Service, Salvation Army and Marquette Senior High School Vocational Business Education Program.

Maureen was a member of St. Louis the King Catholic Church. She enjoyed travelling and did so extensively to Germany, Panama Canal, Israel, Alaska and Nova Scotia. She was baptized in the River Jordan. Maureen loved her family and gatherings that brought them altogether.

Maureen is survived by ten children, Alene (Steve) Colvin, Susan (John) High, Ken (Suzette) Hantz, David (Jennifer) Hantz, Donald (Kim) Hantz, Kathy (Mike) Evans, Betty Jean Richer, Julieanne (Vaughn) McDaniel, Geraldine (Aaron) Barber and Warren (Gail) Hantz; 19 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; as well as her constant companion, Reilly.

Besides her parents, Maureen was preceded in death by her siblings, Duane and Patricia; husbands, Thomas Hantz in 1995 and Leland Reif in 2008; and a son-in-law, Leo Richer.

Private family services will be held.
