Georgia Morrison

MILWAUKEE, WI – With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our dear mother Georgia Morrison.

As was her wish, beloved Mother, Wife, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Cousin and dear friend was surrounded with love as she passed peacefully at home, of natural causes.

Georgia was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years George Morrison, brothers Constantine and Andrew. She leaves behind her four children, Pamela (Richard), Diane, Helen, George, sisters, Sophie, Toula, Helen, sister-in law Mary Ann (Victor), grandchildren, Nicole (Tom), Emily (Joe), Charles (Amy), Louisa, George, John, and five great grandchildren. Georgia will also be forever remembered by her numerous nieces, nephews and extended family, dear friends and her children’s friends.

Born to William and Eugenia Lempesis in Marquette, MI, Georgia was the eldest daughter. She and her siblings were raised in a traditional home where Greek was spoken and she happily carried out her responsibilities as eldest daughter.

Georgia attended John D. Pierce Elementary school and Graveraet High school where she excelled in penmanship and dictation. Without a television at home, she spent endless hours practicing her letter forms which inspired the loveliest, impeccable handwriting of which we were all envious.

After working at Marquette General Hospital, her love of music lead her to a job at Tonella’s, the local record shop. She loved her music and dancing the jitterbug and was often caught dancing especially in later years when holding her grandchildren (her children attribute their sense of rhythm to her.)

In February of 1951, she ventured out of Marquette with her sister Sophie and quickly landed a job as a bookkeeper for Amour Co. and later at a movie theater in Milwaukee.

Within two years of her arrival in Milwaukee she met and married George Morrison and became a devoted wife and loving Mother of four.

Georgia always surrounded her children with family and delicious homemade food, especially during the Holidays while trying to keep her Greek traditions in a changing world.

As her children got older, she became a member of the Shorewood Women’s Club, participated in her daughters Girl Scout Troop outings, multitasking before the word was invented. She could knit you a pair of argyle socks and could get her kids to school if they were late, even if she hadn’t dressed herself yet. She never missed her children’s school activities, sporting events and plays and gave them the freedom to explore the world and pave their own paths.

While her children were still in high school, she took a job at an upstart business called Fishing Facts. In the 80’s she and her husband relocated to Menomonie, WI so he could teach at UW-Stout and she took a job data processing (she loved to type) at DHI. They made many new friendships and enjoyed a slower paced way of life; boating, fishing, and their gourmet group. They later retired in Green Bay eventually returning to the Milwaukee area to welcome in their great grandchildren.

Georgia loved her Friday night dates with her husband dining at the Shorewood Inn. She loved to cook and laugh, Greek dancing, yellow roses, fishing, bowling, sitting on the beach with warm sand on her feet, estate sales, a quiet coffee with a plain donut, and holding her grandchildren.

She also loved to take a chance at the slot machines, often excited when strangers hit a jackpot and cheered them on. She was kind, soft spoken and always thinking of others. She enjoyed many wonderful friendships, especially her work team at Fishing Facts in Shorewood and friends from Marquette and Menomonie.

We will miss her dearly.
