MEHL LAKE, GWINN, MI – Bernice P. McNabb, age 93, of Mehl Lake, died on January 24th, at Trillium House in the loving care of her family and U.P. Home Health Care and Hospice.

Born May 3, 1926, in Ishpeming, daughter of the late Edner and Alma (Tuomela) Pelto, she was a graduate of Ishpeming High School, Class of 1944 and worked for John D. Morrison and Company, Certified Public Accountants for seven years prior to her marriage on November 17, 1951 to Thomas R. McNabb. She enjoyed watching her son and grandchildren participate in sports. After Tom’s retirement, they wintered in South Padre Island, Texas, Florida, and fifteen years in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. She also enjoyed flower gardening, knitting, and quilting at Messiah Lutheran Church, where she had been a member for forty-seven years and quilter for forty-three years.

Currently, she was a member of Grace Lutheran Church of Gwinn. She was a life member of the Ishpeming High School Alumni Association, a life member of and past queen of Nefretete Temple #120, Daughters of the Nile.

She is survived by her husband, Tom of Mehl Lake, a daughter, Laura (Dick) Goodney of Marquette, a son, Mark (Debbie) of Mehl Lake, and a son, Peter of Green Bay, WI, and a brother, Bern Pelto of Marquette. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, David (Michelle) Goodney, Jeffrey (Carrie) Goodney, Kelly (Scott) Chapman, Amy (Chris) Cook, Tom Zima (Jessica), Dr. Chelsey McNabb (Ryan Pender), and Shannon McNabb. She has eleven great grandchildren and several nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Kenneth Edward.

Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, January 28th at Grace Lutheran Church, Gwinn.

The visitation will be from 10:00 am – 11:00 am, with the funeral at 11:00 am. Rev. Brie Kinnunen, pastor, will officiate. A lunch will be served afterwards.
