Rosten earns degree

On June 20, Rachel C. Rosten, daughter of Ben and Carol Rosten of Marquette, received her Doctoral Degree in physics from the University of Washington. Her dissertation was “A Search for Long Lived Neutral Particles Decaying to Hadronic States in Proton-Proton Collisions in the ATLAS Detector.” Her research was conducted at CERN which sits on the Franco-Swiss border near Geneva. CERN is the European Organization for Nuclear Research which uses some of the world’s most powerful particle accelerators and operates the largest particle physics laboratory in the world. She graduated in 2003 from Marquette Senior High School and in 2007 from Michigan Technological University with a bachelor’s degree in material science and engineering and physics. She is currently working on her post doc for IFAE of Barcelona, Spain, which will allow her to continue her research work at CERN.
