Westwood High School students Excel in regional, state competition

Nine students won top awards at the competition and qualified for the national competition in California from May 512. Included in the state competition were (* Indicates national qualifier): Anderson,* second place – advanced office systems & procedures; Beauchamp,* first place – legal office procedures, silver medal – administrative support concepts, third place – database applications; Bjork,* fifth place – medical office procedures; Hinkens,* second place – medical office procedures; Mason, sixth place – legal office procedures; Perry,* fifth place – keyboarding production; Salmi,* second place – legal office procedures, seventh place – advanced word processing; Ivan Wiljanen,* bronze medal – financial math and analysis, sixth place – payroll accounting, seventh place – advanced spreadsheet applications; Luke Wiljanen,* first place – fundamentals of web design; and Wisuri, third place – fundamental word processing. Competition began with the regionals in Escanaba, where WHS students competed with more than 350 students from around the Upper Peninsula. Students who were successful at the regional competition qualified to compete at the State Leadership Conference in Grand Rapids.
