U.S. Army Corps of Engineers welcomes new commander

DETROIT — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District transitioned leadership in a Change of Command ceremony recently at The War Memorial in downstate Grosse Pointe Farms.  Lt. Col. Donald K. Lew assumed command from Lt. Col. Wallace W. Bandeff in front of about 200 regional leaders and guests. Brig. Gen. Daniel J. Recent Going PRO Talent Fund grants help U.P. businesses build skilled talent

MARQUETTE — Five Upper Peninsula employers are included in the latest round of Going PRO Talent Fund awards, part of more than $6 million in statewide grants supporting worker training, new hires and registered apprenticeships. Administered by Upper Peninsula Michigan Works!, U.P. employers received nearly $148,000 in awards, including support for G. Brooks Electric in Iron Mountain, MJ VanDamme Trucking in Gwinn, Precision Edge Surgical in Sault Ste. Graduates of MSHS meet up as U.S. Army senior commanders 

MARQUETTE — Col. Jon Erickson, Marquette Senior High School class of 1998 and Lt. Col. Micah Stedman, MSHS class of 2003, met up in the U.S. Army's Pre-Command Course from July 12-24 in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Erickson is a reservist taking command on Aug. 23 of the 1st Multi-Function Training Brigade based out of Fort Gordon, Georgia. Stedman, meanwhile, is serving on active duty and will be taking command on Aug. 14 of the 86th Expeditionary Signal Battalion headquartered in Fort Bliss, Texas.

Bloomquist to hold town hall

MARQUETTE — Kyle Blomquist, candidate for U.S. House of Representatives in Michigan’s 1st Congressional District, will host a public town hall in Marquette from 6-8:00 tonight at the Northern Center Ballroom, 1401 Presque Isle Ave. The town hall will give residents an opportunity to hear directly from Blomquist, ask questions, and share their concerns about the challenges facing families and communities across Michigan’s 1st Congressional District.
