Manistique hotel and campground site gets new life as Campfire Shores

MANISTIQUE — A once vacant hotel and campground site in Manistique is getting redeveloped as Campfire Shores, a new, re-envisioned outdoor destination that blends camping, glamping, trails and future event space with plans to renovate part of the former hotel building.

Once complete, offerings will include tent camping, RV hookups, a bathhouse, glamping domes, hiking trails, yard games, picnic area, pavilion, outdoor bar and a renovated hotel. Since purchasing the property in 2022, owner Jill Hoffmann has reopened the campground with upgraded RV and tent sites, added a new bathhouse and created trail loops across an adjacent 20-acre parcel.

With assistance from Scale UP, which is powered by InvestUP to provide technical assistance to communities and projects, Schoolcraft County recently approved a Brownfield plan for the property, creating tax incentives that will now help move the hotel renovation phase forward.

The project turns a highly visible dormant property into a tourism and community asset with the potential to support year-round activity and local spending.

Starting at $3.23/week.
