Cheeseman Road in St. Ignace temporarily closed starting April 29

ST. IGNACE — Cheesman Road in St. Ignace will be temporarily closed to traffic starting Monday due to ongoing work on the southbound I-75 overpass. Traffic will be detoured to US 2, and one lane will remain open in each direction in I-75.

Cheesman Road is expected to be reopened to traffic with a temporary traffic signal by May 2.

According to a statement from MDOT, “the closure is required for the safety of motorists during removal of the overhead bridge deck and beams.”

This is part of a larger MDOT project investing about $9 million to rebuild both I-75 overpasses over Cheeseman Road, including deck replacement, bearing replacement, substructure repairs, beam end repairs, steel cleaning and coating and approach work. Work on northbound I-75 was completed in 2025, and work on southbound I-75 will be finished this year. The project is expected to directly and indirectly support 76 jobs.
