M-149 resurfacing project in Schoolcraft County starts Monday, June 16

NEWBERRY — The Michigan Department of Transportation is investing about $1.8 million to resurface more than 10 miles of M-149 from north of U.S. 2 to the Palms Book State Park entrance in Schoolcraft County.

Work includes asphalt overlay, select cold milling, aggregate shoulders, guardrail repair and adjustment, rumble strips and pavement markings. This project includes a three-year materials and workmanship pavement warranty.

The tentative start date is
Monday, June 16 and it’s projected the project end date will be Aug. 27.
Motorists should expect intermittent daytime lane closures on M-149 via traffic regulators. One lane of alternating traffic will be open at all times. A 10-foot lane width restriction will be in effect on M-149 during the project and a work zone speed limit of 45 mph.

Based on economic modeling, this investment is expected to directly and indirectly support 17 jobs. It will extend the lifespan of the roadway and increase safety for motorists.

Starting at $3.23/week.
