Stupak endorses Barr in race

MARQUETTE — Former U.S. representative and congressman, Bart Stupak, declared his support for Callie Barr in the contested Democratic primary to represent northern and upper Michigan.

Following the recent candidate filing deadline, Barr is set to face off against Dr. Bob Lorinser who unsuccessfully ran for this seat in 2022.

“I am honored to earn this endorsement, which means a lot to me having grown up in this district and to everyone in Northern and Upper Michigan who watched Congressman Stupak lead our region for nearly two decades,” said Barr.

Former U.S. Rep. Stupak is one of Michigan’s longest serving congressional representatives having served Michigan’s 1st Congressional District for 18 years. Stupak, who was a fierce advocate for our Great Lakes, still resides in Upper Michigan.

“I am highly impressed by Callie Barr and the energy she brings to this campaign,” said former U.S. Rep. Stupak. “I know that Callie has what it takes to win in 2024 and now, more than ever, we need leaders who are willing to put our people above partisanship.

“Callie and her family have made tremendous sacrifices to fight for others and still continue to do so today. I hope everyone will join me in supporting her work to bring representation to our district and common sense back to D.C., he said.”
