ISHPEMING –Although Detroit continued to burn Wednesday night, Superiorland communities reported few problems with vandalizing spooks and hobgoblins. Marquette City Police had an “average” Halloween night said Lt. Hank Steede. The department investigated a typical Halloween larceny-a report that an older child stole a younger one’s candy-and eight egg-throwing and loud party calls. “Surprisingly Halloween is not a real difficult time,” Steede said. Ishpeming police blame Wednesday’s mild weather for increased Halloween activity in their city. “We had a large number of kids on the streets last night,” one police officer said. “When you have that many kids out in nice weather, activity is going to increase.” Ishpeming police said they received more than the normal amount of egg-throwing calls. While Ishpeming police were busy with egg-throwers, other departments had a pretty quiet evening.

MARQUETTE — City Clerk Everett H. Kent announced this morning that an automatic voting machine, identical to those which will be used in the presidential election next Tuesday, is on display in the city hall. The machine may be viewed any time between 8a.m. and noon and between 1:15 and 5 p.m. Demonstrations on the operation of the machine will be given by the clerk or one of his assistants. This is the fifth year Marquette is using the voting machines and Kent noted their operation is relatively simple. Questions in the election are in three categories, the proposed constitutional amendment at the top; the seven parties in the partisan section, in rows underneath, and the non-partisan races, at the bottom on the extreme right.
