Man dies after motorcycle crash

SAULT STE. MARIE — The investigation continues into a single motorcycle crash that resulted in a fatality on West Lakeshore Drive in Sault Ste. Marie.

Officials say the 31-year-old, whose name and hometown has not been released, was traveling westbound on West Lakeshore Drive before his motorcycle left the north side of the roadway and collided with a tree.

Michigan State Police troopers were dispatched to the crash. The man was transported by Bay Mills EMS to War Memorial Hospital. He was later flown to Spectrum Health – Fred and Lena Meijer Heart Center where he later died, according to the Michigan State Police Sault Ste. Marie Post. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash, officials said.

Troopers were assisted by Bay Mills Police Department, Bay Mills Fire Department, Bay Mills EMS, Michigan State Police St. Ignace Post troopers and the Michigan State Police Commercial Vehicle Division.
