Man cited for careless driving in 2-vehicle crash

SANDS — The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office investigated a two-vehicle personal-injury accident on Marquette County Road 480 west of Pelissier Lake Road at 6:55 a.m. Monday.

The sheriff’s office said that a 1999 Ford pickup driven by Jarrett Peterson, 19, of Ishpeming was headed east when he lost control of his vehicle and crossed the center line, crashing into the side of an MJ VanDamme truck driven by Jeremy Stapely, 46, of Gwinn.

The Ford pickup continued east on the road before going into the westbound ditch and overturning. Stapely pulled over onto the shoulder after his truck was hit, but suffered no injuries.

Peterson sought his own treatment at UP Health System-Bell for minor injuries. He was cited for careless driving.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by Sands Township Fire and EMS as well as Mr. Wrecker.
