MARQUETTE — Citing a decline in passengers, American Eagle, the regional affiliate of American Airlines, will pull out of the Marquette County Airport in Negaunee Township Aug 1. But that blow, which includes the loss of a dozen baggage and terminal jobs, may be cushioned by an expansion of the company’s aircraft maintenance facility, now located at the county airport. A Marquette County official confirmed Friday that American is considering a major expansion of the maintenance facility at the former Sawyer Air Force Base the facility would service the airline’s fleet of ATR 42- and 72-passenger turboprop aircraft.

MARQUETTE — Northern Michigan University made final preparations today for the visit of Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey, who will address an all-university convocation Monday. The vice president, who will speak at an all-university convocation at 1:45 p.m. in the “NMU fieldhouse, has indicated that his address will stress the importance of education in the national interest. University officials said it would be the first visit ever made to the campus by a vice president.
