‘Carols and More’ to be performed at the Vista

NEGAUNEE — Iron Street in Negaunee will be filled with holiday spirit in the coming week as musicians and performers of all ages come together to present “Carols and More” at the Vista Theater.

Professional performer and Negaunee native Jeff Jennings will lead a cast of local talent including students from Negaunee Public Schools — just in time for Christmas.

Jennings said in a press release that he is “very excited” to present a holiday production in his hometown.

“My family and my roots in Negaunee are so important to me,” Jennings said. “Coming back home for any reason is a treat, but an event at the Vista makes it even sweeter. Especially now, the Vista is onto something big. I have noticed a new and fresh push in restoring the theater and utilizing the building it was in the glory days. I am blessed to even be a tiny little part of that.”

Although the improvements to the theater may not be visible, Peninsula Arts Appreciation Council President Rusty Bowers said a significant amount of progress has been made on the two buildings owned by the organization this year.

“We have a new roof over the Vista stage, a new roof on our annex building, and are in the process of rebuilding the north wall of that structure,” Bowers said. “And we are excited to unveil the architectural plans for the two buildings during this event.”

The production itself will feature Christmas carols paired with contemporary and religious favorites and a couple of surprises thrown in, Jennings said.

“These performances are all about community,” he said.

Having Jennings perform at the Vista is always a gift, but especially this time of year, Bowers said.

“We are so grateful that Jeff chooses to share his tremendous talent with us,” Bowers said. “He has been very generous with his time and energy. We appreciate his dedication to the Vista.”

Proceeds from the production will go toward operational expenses over the winter, he said.

“Heating such a large building is expensive,” Bowers said, “and we have a lot of work to do to get ready for our 2020 season.”

“Carols and More” performances will take place at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for students and are available at www.vistatheater.org, or at the door.

Special ticket pricing is available to new Vista Theater volunteers. Check the Vista Theater website or Facebook page for details.
