Two injured after three-vehicle crash

HUMBOLDT — Two people were transported to the hospital by ambulance for severe injuries after a three-vehicle personal injury crash occurred in Humboldt Township Monday morning, according to the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office.

The accident occurred around 10 a.m. Monday at the U.S. 41 and M-95 intersection when a a 2010 Subaru Forester driven by William Mattila, 65, of Republic, was turning south onto M-95 from U.S. 41 and crossed the path of a 2007 Ford Escape that was eastbound on U.S. 41. The Ford Escape then overturned several times, striking a 2018 Chrysler driven by Michael McCann, 71, of Negaunee, that was stopped in the turning lane behind the Subaru Forester.

Mattila and Judith Prisk, 79, of Champion, who was driving the Escape, were transported to by ambulance to Bell Hospital and UP Health System – Marquette where they were treated for “severe, but not life threatening injuries,” according to the sheriff’s office. McCann was uninjured in the crash, police said.

The crash remains under investigation at this time, sheriff’s office officials said.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Marquette County Rescue 131, Humboldt Township Fire Department, Bell EMS and UP Health System – Marquette EMS.
