MARQUETTE – The Marquette Community Foundation handed out $60,991 in grants during 1995, a press release on the organization’s annual report said. A 2,000 grant went to the Marquette Rotary West Foundation and benefited the community playground at the Mattson Lower Harbor Park. Other recipients included Marquette/Alger Young Authors, Superior String Alliance, Northern Lights Youth for Christ and a variety of other local groups that requested a grant.

MARQUETTE – Northern Michigan University’s record summer enrollment of 1,890 students includes representatives of 27 states and four foreign countries and 67 of the 83 counties in Michigan. The enrollment, a 15.4 percent increase over last summer’s record high of 1,635 students from Michigan and 231 students from other states, Dr. Jack R. Rombouts, director of the summer session said.
