Driver cited, minor injuries after 2-vehicle accident

MARQUETTE — Minor injuries were reported and one driver was cited after a two-vehicle crash Sunday at the intersection of U.S. 41 West and Brickyard Road in Marquette Township, according to the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office.

The accident occurred around 1:15 p.m. when a tan 2003 Buick LeSabre failed to yield to westbound traffic on U.S. 41 while turning northbound off of U.S. 41 on to Brickyard Road.

The vehicle collided with a 2013 Ford Edge that was westbound on U.S. 41 striking the LeSabre, resulting in “heavy and disabling damage to both vehicles,” a press release from the sheriff’s office states.

The LeSabre was driven by a 57-year-old Ishpeming woman, who was cited for failure to yield. The Ford Edge was driven by a 38-year-old Ishpeming woman. Minor injuries were treated on scene, police said.

Westbound traffic on U.S. 41 was decreased to a single lane for around a half hour while the scene was investigated and crews cleaned the crash scene, police said.

The Marquette Township Fire Department and EMS, Michigan State Police and Anttila’s Towing Service assisted the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office at the scene.

The accident remains under investigation as of Monday morning, police said. Names of those involved were not released.
