MARQUETTE — An informational meeting about a new group starting for youth will be at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Shiras Room of the Peter White Public Library in Marquette.

Youth ages 11-13 (or grades five through seven) and their parents are invited to learn about the program “Junior Youth Spiritual Empowerment.” Its aim is to assist youth in this age group to transform themselves and their communities.

According to a news release, it’s an approach that sees in these young people the qualities of altruism, a sense of justice, eagerness to learn about the universe and a desire to contribute to the construction of a better world.

Activities include readings and discussions, service projects based on community needs as identified by the participants, and fun activities that build group cohesion.
