Man, 39, drowns in Fisher Lake

MARQUETTE — A man drowned at Fisher Lake in Florence, Wisconsin, Tuesday, according to a press release from the Florence County Sheriff’s Office.

Andrew Vonehrenkrook, 39, of Florence was attempting to move a cinder block that was on a raft and attached to a buoy with rope. His foot became entangled in the rope, and he was pulled under water by the cinder block attached to the rope.

Vonehrenkrook, who was swimming approximately 30 feet from the dock at Fisher Lake Park, came up twice before going under.

A 911 call about the incident was made at 2:48 p.m., police said. When deputies arrived, they swam to the raft and were able to locate him about 15 feet from the raft in 15 feet of water. Deputies were able to free his foot from the rope, bringing him to shore, where CPR was initiated.

Vonehrenkrook was pronounced dead by Florence County Coroner Mary Johnson, according to the release.

Florence Rescue Squad, Beacon Ambulance and Florence Fire Department assisted Florence County Sheriff’s Office, along with “good samaritans who provided the use of their boats and assisted with bringing the man to shore and a nurse who was at the beach and assisted with CPR,” according to the release from Florence County Sheriff’s Office.
