MARQUETTE — Lake Superior Theatre is hosting its annual Light Keeper special event fundraiser at the home of Peter and Peggy Frazier, 460 E. Ridge St., at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

“Overlooking the harbor where our ancestors landed, we could not think of a better (warmer) place to have our salute to the season as attendees celebrate LST’s 20th anniversary,” said LST Board President Peggy Frazier in a press release. “As the site of the former Peter White home, we expect Peter White to make an appearance (thanks Chip Truscot). A scrumptious supper provided by LST board members Reatha Tweedie and Rita Hodgins, and featuring a sneak preview of our 2018 season, this is the the spring event you don’t want to miss.”

The mission of Lake Superior Theater Inc. is to provide our community the opportunity to experience live performances with an emphasis on historical musical dramas. In its 20th season Lake Superior Theatre will be presenting its signature historical musical “Beacon On the Rock,” “Superior Adventures” (a new type of entertainment featuring four unique presentations of Lake Superior stories), “High School Musical, Jr.,” “Godspell,” and “Broadway at the Boathouse.”

This fundraiser event contributes to the overall operation of the theatre for the summer season, as well as providing matching dollars for the grant received from the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs. With a million-dollar view lobby, the theatre has been the recipient of many awards and comments.

One visitor said: “I recently made my first visit to the Lake Superior Theatre and fell immediately in love with this atmospheric theatre! Upon entering the building, you are transported to another world. Dark and rustic, the character of the boathouse pours from the walls in a deluge of nautical memorabilia. Mysteries from ages past seem to hide in the dust upon the rafters. It possesses a soulful ambiance perfect for an intimate theatre experience.”

Peggy Frazier said, “Often I am asked how we can bring so many fabulous performances to the boat house each season at a cost that encourages families to attend — and talk about their unique heritage. We can do so because of your donations and support. This year your donation will provide matching funds for the grant that we received from the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs. With our state of the art digital sound system, elevated risers, additional new comfy chairs that now fill our theatre and our new LED lights, Lightkeeper donations have elevated our performance quality each year.

“Every year families tell us how much they enjoy attending LST walking the bike path to the theatre on a beautiful summer evening. Others suggest that coming out of a performance and looking out on majestic Lake Superior makes us realize how lucky we are to live here. Some marvel at how they can leave the opera glasses at home and enjoy amazing live theatre in air conditioned, easy, intimate comfort, almost feeling like an actor on stage! Thank you for helping us to provide outstanding live theatre and making Marquette a desirable place to live, work, and play.”

The event will take place at 460 E. Ridge St. at 5 p.m. and provides a fun atmosphere for guests to sip, sup and socialize. LST’s giving categories are: $50-$99 Deckhand (earns one ticket to the Light Keeper event), $100-$149 Navigator (earns two tickets to the Light Keeper event), $150-$199 First Mate, $200-$249 Captain and $250 and up Light Keeper.
