More veterans now eligible for VA health care; enrollment event set for Houghton
HOUGHTON — More U.S. military veterans are now eligible for Department of Veterans Affairs health care than ever before, thanks to expanded eligibility under the PACT Act — including many who were previously denied.
The Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center outreach and enrollment team will be at Houghton County VetFest to help eligible Veterans enroll in VA health care. The event will take place from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. June 17 at Michigan Tech’s Student Development Complex, 600 MacInnes Drive.
VA health care often costs less than non-VA options and includes benefits such as hearing aids and eyeglasses. Prescription co-payments start at $8 and are capped at $33, with many Veterans paying no out-of-pocket costs.
Veterans interested in enrolling should bring their DD214, proof of income from the previous year, date of marriage (if married), and the Social Security numbers and birth dates of any dependents.
All unenrolled or unregistered veterans are encouraged to attend. Those unsure about their eligibility are welcome.
