DSISD students complete Escanaba Home through Build U.P. Partnership
ESCANABA — Delta-Schoolcraft Intermediate School District building trades students have completed a new home at 820 Willow Creek Road, in Escanaba, through a program that connects interactive learning with real housing impact in the community.
The roughly 1,600 square-foot home was built by students in the district’s career and technical education program with funding support from InvestUP’s Build U.P. program, which provided $200,000 toward the project cost.
Beyond creating a new home for the market, the work gave students direct exposure to framing, electrical, roofing, HVAC, plumbing and other skilled trades while helping them build relationships with local industry professionals.
The project also creates momentum for what comes next, with additional student-built homes already underway in Delta and Schoolcraft counties. Because Build U.P. support is designed to be repaid and reinvested, the impact of this home does not stop at a one-time contribution. Its revolving support structure helps reduce risk on the front end, then allows proceeds to cycle back into future homes and additional housing opportunities.
