MARQUETTE — Scottish folk-rock group Skerryvore will perform a concert at Northern Michigan University at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

The concert, set to be held at the Forest Roberts Theatre, is part of the annual Winter Roots Festival cosponsored by the Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center, Hiawatha Tradional Music Festival and Ore Dock Brewing Company.

The three-time winner of Scotland’s Live Act of the Year award has reinvented traditional Scottish music for a modern, multicultural audience. Skerryvore has performed for audiences worldwide. Its music is a mix of bagpipes, fiddles, accordions and whistles, alongside guitar and vocals, underpinned by driving bass, drums and keys.

Folk Radio UK offered the following review of its performance: “Skerryvore has crafted a world beating fusion, which takes pride in their heritage and above all else is a pure joy to listen to.”

Their recently released album, “Tempus,” was featured on BBC Radio, and climbed to No. 1 in the Official Scottish Album and UK Folk Album charts.
