MARQUETTE — The Friends of the Peter White Public Library has started its annual spring book sale that runs through today.

Thursday afternoon it began its presale event, where guests could pay an additional $5 admission to get a first look at the books being sold in the upcoming days.

“They want the first dibs on the books, they want to see what’s there so it is the best time to come, Thursday night,” said president of the Friends of the PWPL David White. “Tonight there has been close to 100 so far and we get about that amount Saturday night, because they get to fill up a bag for $5.”

The last day of the book sale today, admission is free and it has a day of deals for the book sale. In the first few hours from 9:30 a.m. to 1:45 p.m., all books are 50% off, and from 1:45 to 4 p.m. eventgoers may fill up a bag of books for only $5. Friday, the second day of the book sale takes place from 9:30 to 5 p.m. and admission is free.

By the end of the sale any books left over are donated to St. Vincent de Paul, and any and all money is used to fund Friends of Peter White Public Library events and to cover for repairs, costs, equipment in the PWPL that are not covered in the library’s budget, said White.

“It is all due to our wonderful patrons because all of these books are donations from people in the area. We were lucky we get so many great books,” said White. “But we can always use donations. There are times when I start to worry about the store because the shelves get a little thin, but just to let folks know we are always in need of books if they want to drop by.”
