Lake Superior Knitters to meet

MARQUETTE — The Lake Superior Knitters will meet from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Marquette Regional History Center, 145 Spring St. in Marquette.

The members at all levels of knitting (crochet) gather to explore various patterns, skills and techniques to expand their knowledge. Members mentor each other to solve problems and to try new patterns by receiving support of fellow knitters one-on-one.

On Tuesday, it is suggested that members bring a copy of a pattern to swap that is related to something that would make a great Christmas gift. The group will have a special presentation probably in November to expose members to various fiber artists.

New members are always welcomed; the time slot is convenient for home-schooled students, mothers of school-age children, retirees, those with transportation issues (across from bus terminal) and college students.

If new to knitting, come to the meeting with a skein of worsted weight yarn (avoid dark colors), a size 7 circular needle that is 24 inches long to start a simple cowl pattern (provided) using knit and purl stitches. Supplies can be purchased at Alley Kats on Washington Street, which carries supplies.

Many members will also attend the meeting from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. (second Wednesday of the month) at Alley Kats.

Attendees donate $1 to $5 at each meeting at the MRHC.
