Local Memorial Day events planned for Monday

MARQUETTE — Memorial Day services are planned in several area locations:
≤ Alger County
The Alger County Veterans Honor Guard will be doing its usual honors on Memorial Day.
There will not be an open house at the American Legion in Munising due to COVID-19 restrictions. The schedule will start with the flag raising at 10 a.m. at Bayshore Park followed by the blessing of the fleet at the marina.
The program will be at 11 a.m. at Maple Grove Cemetery. This will be followed by the flag raising at 11:45 a.m. at the Wetmore Cemetery and at 12.30 p.m. at the AuTrain Cemetery.
≤ Marquette
The Richard M. Jopling American Legion Post 44 will honor the men and women who sacrificed their lives with two services on Memorial Day.
A 9:30 a.m. service will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery and at 10:15 a.m. a service will follow at Park Cemetery in the city of Marquette. The Vietnam Veterans Chapter 380, Marine Corps League, The Boys/Girls Scouts, Elks of Marquette, Post 44 Auxiliary along with singer Jill Weingarten and Steve Krook, who will play “Taps”, will assist with these services.
Because of COVID restrictions there will not be an open house that follows.
≤ Negaunee
The Negaunee VFW Post 3165 and Auxiliary are inviting the public to join them on Monday to observe Memorial Day with a parade, memorial service and open house.
The parade starts at 10 a.m. at the corner of Gold and Iron streets, heads east on Iron Street to Pioneer Avenue, heads north to Main Street, heads east to McKenzie Avenue, heads north to Case Street, and heads west on Case Street back into the downtown ending at Case and Jackson streets.
Memorial services will be held following the parade at the Negaunee Cemetery then Northland Chapel Gardens.
Following services the public is invited to the post home located at 208 Gold St. in Negaunee. A light lunch will be served.
