Wisconsin man dead after officer-involved shooting
Officials:?Marinette deputy on leave while incident investigated
MARINETTE, Wis. — An Amberg, Wisconsin, man is dead following an officer-involved shooting Friday.
According to a press release from the office of Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul, the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic incident in Amberg at 11 a.m. Friday.
Officers attempted to make contact with the individual, who was seated in a vehicle, but the subject drove away from the scene. Law enforcement followed the man for a short distance before he exited the vehicle and brandished a firearm. In response, a sheriff’s deputy discharged his weapon and struck the subject, officials said.
Members of law enforcement began life-saving measures on the man, who was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, according to the release.
No law enforcement personnel or other individuals were injured as a result of the incident.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice-Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating the matter and the deputy involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave per department policy, the release states.
The Division of Criminal Investigation is leading the inquiry with assistance from the Wisconsin State Patrol, Pembine Rescue, the Athelstane Fire Department, the Marinette County medical examiner, Marinette County Dispatch and the DOJ Office of Crime Victim Services.
Law enforcement officials are fully cooperating with Division of Criminal Investigation during the investigation, according to the DOJ release.
