New interim publisher named at Mining Journal

Ann Troutman, interim publisher, The Mining Journal

MARQUETTE — The Mining Journal has now named an interim publisher.

Ann Troutman, previously the Journal’s director of advertising, was officially appointed interim publisher for the newspaper Wednesday.

Troutman comes to the leadership position with 15 years of experience in the industry with Ogden Newspapers, which publishes The Mining Journal in addition to over 40 other daily newspapers, as well as a number of weekly publications and magazines throughout the nation.

“I started my career in Escanaba at the Daily Press and transferred to the Parkersburg News and Sentinel in Parkersburg, West Virginia, and the Marietta Times in Marietta, Ohio,” Troutman said. “When the opportunity to come back to the U.P. at The Mining Journal came up, I was excited to return to the area.”

Troutman, who served as advertising director at the newspapers she previously worked for, joined the Journal’s staff to serve as advertising director in July 2018.

Since coming to the Journal last summer, Troutman has worked closely with Jim Reevs, learning much from The Mining Journal’s publisher of the past 27 years.

Troutman said she’s grateful to have had the chance to work with and learn from Reevs.

Overall, Troutman is honored to have the opportunity to continue the long legacy of publishing a strong community paper for Marquette County and the surrounding area.

She said she’s proud to lead The Mining Journal and oversee its staff members who work in diverse positions in the daily paper’s many departments, including editorial, administrative, advertising, classifieds, circulation, creative services and the pressroom.

“I see a lot of really positive things at The Mining Journal, particularly with the people we have working here. We have a really good group of people,” she said. “There’s so many things that newspapers can do that are interesting and exciting, and I’m looking forward to that.”

Troutman, who resides in Marquette with her husband, a veteran of the U.S. Navy, is proud to be a part of the Marquette community, she said. She also has three sons, one who lives in Escanaba and two who live in Marquette.

Troutman can be reached at 906-228-2500 or atroutman@miningjournal.net.

Cecilia Brown can be reached at 906-228-2500, ext. 248. Her email address is cbrown@miningjournal.net.
