Vehicle crash in eastern U.P. claims life
SOO TOWNSHIP — A young female from Sault Ste. Marie passed away as a result of a fatal traffic crash that occurred early this morning and closed sections of I-75 in Chippewa County.
The accident occurred around 2:20 this morning along I-75 in Soo Township when a vehicle “drove in to the median and rolled over multiple times,” according to the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office.
“Early reports show that a young Kalamazoo man was driving and may have fallen asleep,” officials said in a press release.
Police do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash at this time, officials said. Names are not being released, police said. Police could not comment on the condition of the driver.
I-75 northbound was closed from M-28 North but had reopened as of around 8:30 a.m., officials said.
The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Sault Ste. Marie Police Department and the U.S. Border Patrol.
