Fatal accident occurs in city of Negaunee

MARQUETTE — One person was pronounced dead at the scene of a fatal two-vehicle accident in Negaunee Sunday afternoon.

The collision took place around 4 p.m. Sunday on the 700 block of Marquette County Road in Negaunee when an eastbound yellow 1997 Ford E-350 driven by a 69-year-old Ishpeming man collided “roughly head-on” with a westbound black 2012 Chevrolet Impala driven by a 29-year-old Negaunee man, according to the Negaunee City Police.

The 29-year-old man was extricated from the vehicle by the Negaunee Fire Department and treated by UP Health System-Bell EMS but was pronounced deceased at the scene by UPHS doctors, police said.

The 69-year-old man was transported by UPHS-Bell EMS to UPHS-Marquette for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Accident investigators from the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office were requested and assisted on the scene.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police Negaunee Post assisted in notifying the victim’s family, police said.

The Negaunee City Police Department, the Negaunee City Fire Department, the Ishpeming City Police Department and UPHS-Bell EMS were dispatched to the scene of the accident, police said.

No further details will be released until the completion of the investigation, police said this morning.
