Negaunee City Band to perform

NEGAUNEE — Director Brandon Nelson has chosen a patriotic theme for Wednesday’s free concert at 7:30 p.m. at the Outdoor Performing Arts Center at the east end of Iron Street.

The concert begins with Nelson’s original composition, “Intrada Americana,” followed by Carmen Dragon’s iconic arrangement of “America, the Beautiful” and one of Henry Fillmore’s most popular marches, “Americans We.”

Sousa marches will take the audience on an American tour with “New Mexico March” and “Minnesota March,” both of which feature Native American sounds and themes. The tour continues with “Americana” and “American Riversongs,” including the beautiful “Shenandoah (Across the Wide Missouri).”

Patriotic themes abound in “This Is My Country” and “Irving Berlin’s Songs for America,” which concludes with “God Bless America.” Our men and women of the Armed Forces are honored with “Armed Forces Salute,” which will be followed by the official march of the United States, “The Stars and Stripes Forever.”

As always, the concert closes with the audience favorite “Just a Closer Walk with Thee.”
