‘A Star Is Born’ to be screened

MARQUETTE — The Peter White Public Library invites film fans to watch “A Star Is Born” at 6 p.m. May 21 in the library’s Community Room on the lower level.

Bring dinner to enjoy this movie in a dinner theater setting with other movie lovers.

When Jackson Maine discovers Ally singing in a drag club, he instantly falls in love with her. As her career rises and his personal demons surface, however, their relationship begins to fall apart. Starring Lady Gaga, Bradley Cooper and Sam Elliott, this 2018 Musical Romantic Drama is rated R and runs 136 minutes.

Nominated for 226 awards, “A Star Is Born” won 65, including an Oscar and a Golden Globe for Best Original Song.

This feature film is being shown as part of the library’s Your Mind Matters series for its portrayal of substance abuse.

Shipwreck Historical Society event

PARADISE — The Great Lakes Shipwreck Historical Society announces its 41st annual Dinner and Business Meeting will be Saturday at the Whitefish Township Community Center, 7052 M-123, Paradise, beginning at 5 p.m.

Current members of the Shipwreck Society, as well as those interested in becoming members, are invited to attend.

Keynote speaker this year will be Sarah Waters, education and outreach coordinator of the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary in Alpena. She will be discussing an historic dive that involved a group of women scuba divers exploring shipwrecks of all five Great Lakes in a 24-hour period, called “The Big Five Dive” which took place in 2016.

The associated annual business meeting will see the election of four new members to the board of directors of the Shipwreck Society.

Craft, vendor fair set for Palmer

PALMER — A Spring Craft and Vendor Fair is happening from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Richmond Township Hall at 100 Smith St. in Palmer.

Many vendors and local artists will be there including wood crafts, baked goods, knitting, pearl jewelry, 31 Bags and other various crafters.
