Soo Tribe board to meet

MARQUETTE — The date for the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians Board of Directors meeting scheduled for Tuesday of this week has been changed.

The meeting now scheduled for next Tuesday (July 25) at the Manistique Health Center.


Flannery exhibit taking place

MICHIGAMME — A reception for Kaleidoscope, an exhibit of oil paintings by Meegan Flannery, will take place from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday at Michigamme Moonshine Art Gallery, 136 E. Main St., Michigamme.

The event will include a chamber concert by Superior String Alliance. Refreshments will be served.

The exhibit opened Sunday and runs through Sept. 16.

Vacation Bible school starting

PALMER — “I Will Call Upon the Lord,” a vacation Bible school, is planned for children in kindergarten through fifth grade from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 27 at Community Lutheran Church, 111 Simpson St., Palmer.

The event will include lunch, Bible stories, singing, crafts and games.

Smolens to appear at library

CURTIS — Author John Smolens will be at the Curtis Public Library at 1 p.m. July 27.

Smolens, the director of Northern Michigan University’s Masters of Fine Arts in Creative Writing Program, is an acclaimed short story and fiction writer. Many of his books are set in the Upper Peninsula. His newest book is “Wolf’s Mouth.”

Smolens will bring his books, his wife and his golden retriever for his visit to Curtis.
