Six Pointer Munich Dunkel

Stormy Kromer, Ore Dock collaborate on special release beer

MARQUETTE — Two Upper Peninsula companies have recently collaborated to bring the Marquette area an upcoming evening filled with live music, popular apparel and a new beer to enjoy.

From 4 to 8 p.m. on Feb. 17, Stormy Kromer and the Ore Dock Brewing Company will present a one-night bash at the Marquette brewery, located at 114 W. Spring St. The event will include a live musical performance by Fauxgrass, of the Grand Rapids area, giveaways, limited edition Six Pointer steins & tees, a chance to win a Stormy Kromer Boss snowplow, and so much plaid.

The day will also feature deals from Ore Dock neighbors Getz’s Clothiers, as well as the special release of the brewery’s Six Pointer Munich Dunkel, a dark lager brewed with German Munich malts and the hop variety of Czech Saaz.

“It’s really quite an honor to have teamed up with a company that produces such an iconic product like Stormy Kromer. It’s hard to imagine what it takes to stay in business for well over 100 years, but it’s easy for us to get on board with what makes the Stormy Kromer brand such a staple in the minds of so many and that’s the notion of quality and standing behind your product,” said Ore Dock Production Manager Adam Robarge in an email. “We chose a Munich Dunkel as the collaboration’s beer style in part because of George ‘Stormy’ Kromer’s German roots, but also because it’s a beer that’s been around since the 1500s. When something works, it tends to last. And so we thought this style of beer just paired well with Stormy Kromer.”

Since the Ore Dock Brewing Company and Stormy Kromer consists of dedicated and creative teams inspired by the U.P. lifestyle, Robarge said the collaboration between the companies was a great fit.

“The team at Stormy Kromer is so creative and sharp that it’s hardly felt like work while collaborating on this project,” he said. “Unlike collaborating with another brewery, you’re really finding inspiration on a whole different level than simply deciding upon what tastes good. The beer will be released in our taproom on Saturday, Feb. 17, with draft-only placement throughout the U.P. and lower Michigan. Who knows though, you just might find Six Pointer in bottles and on shelves this time next year.”

Established in 1903, Stormy Kromer is an outdoor apparel company now headquartered in the western U.P. city of Ironwood. It’s comprised of artisans who strive to provide classic, yet contemporary products with the same passion, purity and practicality as the first Stormy Kromer cap made over a century ago, according to a press release.

The Ore Dock is currently one of the largest venues in Marquette that hosts live music and an assortment of events. The community space that’s located on the top floor is also used as a study hall from noon to 5 p.m, Monday through Saturday. The brewery focuses on traditional styles of brews.
