Chamber Chat: GINCC has the cure for ‘cabin fever’

Hendrickson

With more snow than the plow drivers know what to do with, cabin fever seems on the verge of becoming an epidemic this winter. Many people are plotting their spring break escapes, some of which include traveling to warmer climates, but the Greater Ishpeming-Negaunee Area Chamber of Commerce has a plan to bring Vegas to Ishpeming for those who cannot wait or go.

The best part is you could win a travel voucher for $1,250 from Holiday Travel Vacations to make your escape a reality. Enter to win by attending the fifth annual Vegas Comes to Ishpeming on March 16 from 7-10 p.m. at River Rock Lanes and Banquet Center in Ishpeming.

Join us for an evening of casino-style games like Black Jack, 3-Card Poker, and Roulette along with side games such as bowling, 4-ball pool and Plinko. The payout for the games comes in the form of raffle slips where participants increase their opportunity to win prizes in the bucket raffle.

This year’s theme will be “Luck of the Yooper” on the eve of St. Patrick’s Day so green, gold and Yooper-style attire is encouraged. Enjoy a variety of themed appetizers and drink specials. There will be a wide selection of raffle baskets awarded at the end of the evening, with two 50/50 drawings at 8 p.m. and 9 p.m., and the Grand Prize awarded at 10 p.m.

Early registration is $25 per person. Appetizers are included with registration, and a cash bar will be available. To register, stop by the GINCC office at 910 U.S. 41 West, Ishpeming (in the Jubilee Foods parking lot) or visit Eventbrite.com. Registration increases to $30 per person at the door. This event is for ages 18 and older.

Proceeds of the event go toward general operation expenses of the GINCC. It’s an opportunity for the community to gather, have fun, share some laughs and shake off the winter blues, plus a chance to win great prizes provided by GINCC member businesses.

Editor’s note: Bob Hendrickson is the executive director of the GINCC. He currently resides in Negaunee with his wife, Laura, and daughter, Sierra. He enjoys mountain biking, skiing, fishing and hunting along with family time.
