Trump wrong candidate

To the Journal editor: What is it Trump has done for this currently? Is it watching police officers being tortured to death and enjoying it. He could have saved their lives, he finally told their killers to go home and we love you. We don’t need a president like him. He says he’ll become a dictator and release all the prisoners on day one. He is already a dictator. He said when he ran for president the first time that he would run as a Republican because they are stupid enough to vote for him. He talks just like Putin. Lives don’t mean a thing to them. If you care about the ...

Plan is forgotten

To the Journal editor: I would like to add something to Lorraine Leidholdt’s excellent (letter to the editor) in the March 6 Mining Journal. Several years ago, the L.C. office sent us a form to be filled out stating our income. It further stated that someone would come to our unit to see if I’ve qualified for an energy-saving kitchen appliance. No one ever came. I have a 25 year old refrigerator that runs almost constantly — which is one reason my electric bill is so high. Whatever happened to that plan? It seems most of your plans die and go to heaven. We are senior ...

Journal thanked

To the Journal editor: We would like to thank The Mining Journal for your ongoing coverage of our club activities for the last 105 years. Chartered in October of 1919, the Marquette Lions Club has served Marquette and surrounding communities in a wide variety of ways. Our Marquette Lions Lakeside Park, just south of the Father Marquette statue, was the location of our first club meeting. Today, the site is under renovation and will become a gathering place for the community. Our first club service project in 1919, was to acquire rock and gravel from local farms and the lakeshore to ...

You’re getting warmer

To the Journal editor: As reported in the March 8 Mining Journal, February 2024 ended up the warmest month on record in terms of global average temperature, the ninth month in a row that this record has been set. Additionally, 2023 was the warmest year on record in terms of global average temperature since at least 1880 as the concentration of the atmospheric greenhouse gas carbon dioxide that traps heat near the Earth’s surface reached an all time high level last year (424 parts per million in May 2023). The World Meteorological Organization also reports the time from 2015 ...

Opposes use of state funds

To the Journal editor: I strongly oppose the Michigan Strategic Fund using $50 million in taxpayer revenue to fund the proposed Copperwood Mine, right next to both Lake Superior and the Porcupine Mountains. In addition to disrupting the area with noise and light pollution, subterranean blasting, and heavy industrial traffic, they actually plan to mine underneath State Park property. Copperwood would also be the closest metallic sulfide mine to Lake Superior in history, requiring the storage of 30+ million tons of toxic waste on downward-sloping topography. Copper is not even a ...

Kitchen talk

To the Journal editor: In rebutting Ms. Britt’s rebuttal, my goodness ya’ll, God bless old man Joe’s heart! Our economy is humming, unemployment is low, gross domestic product is up and petroleum production and the Dow are at record highs. Greedflation might be taking a bite out of your backsides, but inflation has dropped like a rock in water. If you would like to hurry things up a bit at home, consider having a go with those politicians interested in making daycare, education, and healthcare more affordable. I hear that these same folks want to shore-up Social Security ...
