Sometimes, the truth hurts

To the Journal editor: They say, “No news is good news.” I say some news is good news. When I found out the news that the Cliff-Dow site was off the table, I jumped with joy. Finally, the city of Marquette and the Michigan Veterans Home Agency, who were so adamant about using this contaminated site, realized that the site would always be contaminated. Operation Remove DeJoy

To the Journal editor: (Recently) at the Dickinson County Board of County Commissioners I proposed a county-wide petition drive to flood the White House with petitions asking President Biden to remove Postmaster DeJoy from the post office board of governors. While the president does not have the power to remove the postmaster directly from his position, the president can remove a governor from the post office board of governors. Cemetery effort was successful

To the Journal editor: A few months ago, veteran’s organizations conducted a petition drive to present to Michigan legislators that we need a veteran’s cemetery in the Upper Peninsula. Two would be ideal. I am pleased to say that the petition drive went well. They have hired a person to get the project started. Thanks to all who helped with the effort.

Workers Memorial Day a time to reflect

To the Journal editor: Sunday is Workers Memorial Day. This is a day where we remember workers killed, injured and sickened from their jobs and pledge to fight for all workers to have the freedom to work safely. More than 50 years ago, Congress passed the Occupational Safety and Health Act and unions are still fighting for good and safe jobs for everyone. We have fought hard and won protections that have made jobs safer and saved thousands of lives. To the Journal editor: I have a simple question: Why is Dr. Bob Lorinser, D-Marquette, no longer employed by the Marquette County Board of Health? Not only is this a taxpayer-funded position, but Dr. Lorinser, while employed by Marquette County, launched a campaign to run as the Democratic challenger to U.S. Rep. Jack Bergman, R-Watersmeet, for Michigan’s 1st Congressional District seat.
