Where are his priorities?

Vince Lombardi was famously quoted as saying that his priorities were: God, family and the Green Bay Packers, in that order. He was the last NFL coach to win three consecutive NFL championships in '65, '66 and '67. The Packers’ Lambeau Field is now located on a street named after him. His statue is at the entrance to the stadium. The Super Bowl trophy is named after him. His legacy was earned by his excellent on-the-job performance. Donald Trump’s apparent priorities are: God, Trump and corruption. He hijacks religious sentiment to promote Christian nationalism as a method ...

To the Journal editor: On behalf of the American Legion Post 114 and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 114 of Greenwood, we would like to extend a huge thank you to the following businesses and individuals who so generously supported us with our girls state and boys state 2026 program. The girls state and boys state program first presented in the late 1930's and is one of the most respected experiential learning programs in the United States. USPS still useful, Stephen Moore useless

So, political hack and former Trump lackey Stephen Moore wants us to believe that the USPS is no longer useful. He could not be more wrong. Moore also expresses his clear resentment for DEI in the USPS. He so cannot stand the use of the USPS worker title "postal carrier" or "letter carrier" instead of the antiquated "postman" that he had to mention it twice in the same editorial. Although some Americans have taken the easy way out by sending "I love you" and "happy birthday" messages electronically, many Americans still write letter and cards by hand and mail them via USPS. The fact ...

Post office food drive a success

To the Journal editor: May 9 was our annual "Stamp Out Hunger" food drive. The NALC Br. #95 picked up 4,500 lbs. of non-perishable goods. Even in these current tougher times with increased costs, the people of Marquette still came through to fill our local pantries. Branch #95 thanks you for your generosity! Your donations went to the following: Janzen House, Room at the Inn Warming Center, Salvation Army, St. Vincent de Paul and the Women’s Center/Harbor House. We would also like to thank the Marquette United Way for their continued support of this food drive. And a special thanks ...

Bergman just plain wrong

To the Journal editor: Representative Jack Bergman has recently sent a statement about Donald Trump’s agenda to us from Louisiana, where he lives most of the time. Bergman, you may recall, was one of only 16 members of Congress who voted to nullify the results of the 2020 election after the January 6 riot at the Capitol. Representative Bergman is exhorting Republicans to support Donald Trump’s agenda. He states that Trump’s agenda is to “secure our borders, restore the economy, and put America first once again”. To be fair, Trump’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement ...

Parade marshal announcement, volunteer request made

To the Journal editor: Marquette Kiwanis Club is pleased to announce that Peggy and Peter Frazier of Marquette, who have given so much to the community, have been selected as parade marshals for the 2026 July 4th Parade. Peggy and Peter have sponsored the Lake Superior Theater from their boat house and have conducted the July 4th Boat Parade for many years. This year's Marquette Kiwanis July 4th Parade is a special one since it celebrates our nation's 250th birthday. The theme is "One Nation Indivisible – 250 years." This is the 31st year Marquette Kiwanis has sponsored the parade ...
