Who’s to blame?

To the Journal editor: It is ... after the turmoil in Pennsylvania, including all the sanctimonious cries for tamping down the political rhetoric. Already the Republicans are blaming Biden and the Democrats for the shooting. Already the Republicans are taking their convention opportunity to ramp up and inspire rage, hate, division and blame in distinct and radical contradiction to their own words of advice for the rest of us to turn down the heated rhetoric. Yeah, lots of luck, America!

Protect Old Town

To the Journal editor; Negaunee residents please vote yes on August 6 to protect a key portion of the Old Town Negaunee/ Jackson Mine Park recreation complex. This area is located on the west edge of Negaunee near the downtown and the Senior Citizens Center. Old Town Negaunee is an old neighborhood that was evacuated many years ago to make way for mining operations that have long since ceased. Japanese group arriving soon

To the Journal editor: On Aug. 12, 1979, a group of eight Marquette residents traveled to Higashiomi, Japan, to officially begin a Sister City relationship that has lasted and grown stronger over the last 45 years. On July 30, a group of nine Higashiomi, Japan, residents will travel to Marquette to celebrate this milestone with us. Since 1979, alternate visits have taken place every year (with the exception of the COVID-19 years) and many connections and lasting friendships have formed as a result. Dangerous driving cited

To the Journal editor: I recently went out to retrieve my trash and recycle bins, only to find them knocked over violently. Thinking it was the wind, I was informed by a neighbor that a young woman, driving about 35 mph while talking on her cellphone, drove up over the curb onto my yard and plowed through both bins. The kind neighbor tried to get the license plate number, but the perpetrator sped off at about 40 mph. Old Town ballot issue addressed

To the Journal editor: There was a press release from the city of Negaunee on June 21 with the title “Old Town Area Safe from Development” causing unnecessary mass confusion The press release failed to mention that the five-acre parcel at Cyr and Snow streets is still on the Aug. 6 ballot. It failed to mention that the five-acre parcel was not included in this protection and still needs to be voted on in the Aug. 6 primary election.
